The Movie "Ida"" A Novice With A Hidden Past
I greatly enjoyed the new Polish film "Ida" about a young woman, Anna, who has been raised in a Polish convent since infancy and is about to take her vows. She learns that she has a living relative, Aunt "Red" Wanda, a Communist judge and former prosecutor. She further learns that she is Jewish and that her real name is Ida Lebenstein. I found it amazing that none of the reviews I read point out the significance of her name Lebenstein which means "Stone of Life" in Yiddish.
The path of discovery is not just Anna's but also Wanda's.
Do not miss this film.
